Lady Gaga first announced the idea for her Monster Ball tour in October 2009, after her planned Fame Kills trek with Kanye West was canceled, and she debuted the live spectacle a month later. The singer revamped the show into a massive arena show for its European kick-off in February. And now the pop diva is upping the ante once again, announcing an ambitious 31-date summer tour that launches June 28th in Quebec. The tour will make stops in arenas in Philadelphia, New York, Cleveland, Los Angeles, Detroit and other major U.S. and Canadian markets. Tickets for most dates go on sale this Friday, March 19th through Live Nation; special guests will be announced shortly.

Check out photos from Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball show.

Gaga — who describes the tour as the first ever “pop-electro opera” — told Rolling Stone last year the idea for the show is rooted in futuristic stage drama. “The theatrics and story elements are in the style of an opera. Imagine if you could take the sets of an opera, which are very grand and very beautiful, and put them through a pop-electro lens. The design of the show is very, very forward, very, very innovative. I’ve been thinking about ways to play with the shape of this stage and change the way that we watch things.”

As Rolling Stone reported from her first U.S. Monster Ball date, Gaga’s show features extreme wardrobe changes, the singer tackling numerous instruments and all of her biggest hits from The Fame and its reissue follow-up The Fame Monster. When the show returned in England, Gaga added a new narrative (she and her pals race to a party) and a 40-foot animatronic sea monster.

By Matt Harper

The 2010 South by Southwest (SXSW) festival began Friday (March 12) with the premiere of the heavily-anticipated comic book flick "Kick-Ass," but anyone familiar with Austin's famed annual festival knows that music takes center stage during this week-and-a-half. And in keeping with that spirit, Ustream held their own kick-off party and invited Gym Class Heroes and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz to start the week off right.

Gym Class Heroes frontman Travis McCoy took to the stage in good spirits and kept the crowd dancing to the band's own unique brand of rock-infused hip-hop (or is it the other way around?). Friend and label mate Pete Wentz stood on a couch to get a better view of the band with a coy half-smile. Wentz wasn't the only celeb in the house though, as actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler watched enthusiastically from the VIP section and legendary rapper Bun B hung out with the crowd on the floor.

During Gym Class Heroes' set, Travis took a moment to talk about his upcoming solo album and assured the crowd that the band was about half way through a new Gym Class record. His solo project is just a chance for him to explore a new sound, he told the enthusiastic crowd. Travis told the room that we can expect The Papercut Chronicles 2 some time in the first quarter of next year.

After Gym Class Heroes wrapped up their set, Pete Wentz took to the club's turntables for a quick DJ session. All in all, it was a great way to kick off SXSW in Austin, and we're hoping more great things in the next 10 days.

This Sunday (March 14), we jump the clocks forward an hour in accordance with Daylight Savings Time. Do you know what that means? It means that this weekend is one hour shorter than it should be. So you have 60 fewer minutes to cram in the trip to your local multiplex to see "Remember Me" and grab a spot on the couch to watch Pearl Jam on "Saturday Night Live." That also means you have one less hour to catch up with all the stories you might have missed this week, including a number of looks at Lady Gaga's new video for "Telephone" and a peek into the budding feud between Justin Bieber and Aziz Ansari's alter-ego "Raaaandy." Check out the rest of the week's top links below.

» Conan O'Brien turned a woman from Michigan into an Internet celebrity with a single click of his mouse, and MTV News talked to her first to get the full story. Then he scheduled a national tour and everybody celebrated all over again.

» "American Idol" soldiered on, whittling the group down to the 12 finalists. Hopefully, we'll be hearing some indie rock covers in the coming weeks.

» Still, if they decide to stick to classic rock, everything should sound as good as Siobhan Magnus' cover of "House of the Rising Sun."

» T.I. debuted a new single this week called "I'm Back," and it's a stunning return to form for the King of the South.

» In legal news, Lil Wayne began his prison sentence. He missed an awful lot during his first day in, and he's sure to miss plenty more.

» Justin Bieber has entered into his first feud (though somewhat unwilling and certainly in jest) with Aziz Ansari's alter-ego "Raaaandy."

» Last week, we got another set of clues about the identity of Iamamiwhoami, but there aren't any more answers. Still, there remain plenty of excellent conspiracy theories.

» David Otunga continued his reign on "WWE NXT," and he owes much of it to idols like Andre the Giant and the Rock.

» There was a bit of tragedy amidst the fun this week, as the music community learned about Sparklehorse mastermind Mark Linkous' suicide.

» Also in the untimely death department, actor Corey Haim passed away at the age of 38. He left behind "The Lost Boys," "License to Drive," "Dream a Little Dream" and Michael Damian's "Rock On" video.

» MTV News also celebrated the life and career of the Notorious B.I.G. on the anniversary of his tragic death.

» Thanks to their new show for kids, the men of Kiss are running out of endorsements, which is why they need to invest in some medical research. Who wouldn't want to undergo Kissmotherapy?

» MTV News sent two superfans to Las Vegas to cover this year's 311 Day. Check out the dispatches from Lauren Black and Dave Kosin.

» Finally, take some time out to watch both Guns N' Roses' Use Your Illusion video trilogy and Lady Gaga's "Telephone" and contemplate which trilogy will stand alone as the greatest.

Green Day’s American Idiot begins previews on Broadway in two weeks and we’re stoked (obviously) but that’s not the only musical we’ve got our eyes on this spring. Next month the Berkeley Repertory Theater will premiere Girlfriend, a new show built around the perfect pop confections of Matthew Sweet’s 1991 album — a.k.a. the best power-pop album of all time. (Seriously. It’s amazing. We wouldn’t joke about power-pop.)

The musical is actually a boy-meets-boy love story, so we’re curious how they’ll spin the title song. The album’s other star single, “I’ve Been Waiting,” on the other hand, bypasses personal pronouns entirely, so no rewriting there. Check out the videos for these two “rock and roll valentines” and lap up the chiming guitars, layered harmonies and wickedly infectious melodies. For all you manga fans out there, “Girlfriend” features animated clips from the movie Space Adventure Cobra, and “I’ve Been Waiting” uses clips of Lum Invader, a character from the series Urusei Yatsura. Plus, check out Sweet and Susanna Hoff’s Live at Rolling Stone set.

"It's flattering. I'm not letting anything go to my head, though. It's definitely up for grabs, it's still up in the air. We don't know who's gonna win! But it's flattering to hear. Everyone's really talented."

-"American Idol" contestant Crystal Bowersox, talking to MTV News' Jim Cantiello about her status as the current favorite on the ninth season of the show. Bowersox chatted with Cantiello during the Top 12 Party in Hollywood on Thursday night (March 11), where the dozen remaining contestants met the media and began to get acquainted with their new lives as stars in both music and television. Bowersox is a rare case in the world of "American Idol," as she had never really seen the show prior to auditioning, so she is constantly being surprised by aspects of the show. "I had no idea what happens behind the scenes," she told Cantiello. The resident MTV News "American Idol" expert also asked Bowersox about the group numbers that open up every show. "I may not look like I'm having the best time, but I am. I enjoy it," she said.

So far, Bowersox has had a handful of excellent performances but may be best known for her hospital stay that nearly cost her a spot on the show. But she ended up recovering in time to tear the house down, which became her personal highlight. "My favorite performance was 'As Long As I Can See the Light,'" she told Cantiello. "Hours earlier I had gotten out of the hospital, and I was just really happy to be healthy enough to perform that song."

Do you think Crystal Bowersox will be this season's "American Idol" winner? If not her, who is the favorite? Let us know in the comments!

Since she first shook around in haute couture in the clip for "Just Dance," Lady Gaga has made a name for herself as one of the greatest music video artists in pop history. Over the course of two albums, she has crafted videos that have become increasingly elaborate, featuring more narrative elements, crazier fashion, eye-popping special effects and genre-pushing dance moves. "Telephone," her newest video that just premiered Thursday night (March 11), is the crown jewel in her visual work.

But is it truly epic? MTV News took a look at the criteria that can turn a video from a simple accompaniment to a song into a truly transcendent piece of art.

Based on those rules, does "Telephone" join those clips by Michael Jackson, Meat Loaf, Aerosmith and Green Day as epics?

Big Name Director
"Telephone" was directed by Jonas Akerlund, and while he doesn't have the most illustrious resumé when it comes to feature films (it consists of 2002's barely watchable "Spun" and 2009's unseen "Horsemen"), but when it comes to music videos, he is in an elite class of visionaries. His award-winning clips include Madonna's "Ray of Light," Metallica's "Turn the Page," U2's "Beautiful Day," Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" and Pink's "Sober." He may not have had the Hollywood success of David Fincher or Michael Bay, but he certainly is big time.

Melodramatic Plot
There is more drama in the two minutes before the song even starts in "Telephone" than in many artists' entire video catalogs. Gaga goes to jail, fights with inmates, mixes some poison, kills Tyrese, makes some sandwiches and drives off into the sunset while trading hard-boiled lines with Beoyncé. With performances this operatic, "Telephone" has drama to spare.

Big Hollywood Star
OK, so this is where it gets a little sketchy, as "Telephone" doesn't really feature a big Keanu Reeves-style cameo. (Sorry, Tyrese.) However, it does feature Beyoncé. Sure, she's on the song and basically shows up as a collaborator, but are there many stars on the planet bigger than Ms. Knowles? Anyone else would have simply been eclipsed by her and Gaga's collective star power.

Length
This is pretty automatic, as "Telephone" is nearly 10 minutes long. To put that in perspective, that's not quite as long as the full version of "Thriller" but slightly longer than "November Rain."

Is Lady Gaga's "Telephone" video truly epic? Let us know in the comments!

This Saturday night (March 13), Pearl Jam will take the stage at 30 Rockefeller Center's Studio 8H and rock out on "Saturday Night Live" for the fourth time in their two decades as a band (Jude Law will cover hosting duties). From their humble origins as a band called Mookie Blaylock who formed in the wake of the tragic death of Mother Love Bone frontman Andrew Wood to their world-conquering dominance on albums like Ten and Vs. to their battles with Ticketmaster and George W. Bush to their current incarnation as one of the most consistent and beloved touring acts in the world, Pearl Jam have held onto their core members (save for some shuffling in the drummer's stool) and delivered their rugged mix of classic rock, punk, garage and everything in between.

In 20 years, frontman Eddie Vedder doesn't appear to have aged very much. He still has that youthful glow and a hunger in his eyes, and he has constantly experimented with his look. There was the flannel-fueled early grunge era, the shorter hair of the late '90s, the awesome-looking Mohawk from 2002 and a number of different paramilitary incarnations.

But how has Eddie Vedder really evolved since 1991? Check out the photo gallery below, which features promotional and performance shots from Pearl Jam's entire existence in the spotlight. Watch as Vedder goes from a smooth-skinned singer to a number of different beard variations, and watch out for the special cameo from Neil Young.

(Click here for more photos of Eddie Vedder throughout Pearl Jam's long and storied career!)

A few months ago, electro-pop mastermind Kenna got the idea to ascend Mount Kilimanjaro in order to raise awareness for the worldwide clean water crisis. He recruited a bunch of friends (including Jessica Biel, Santigold, Lupe Fiasco and Emile Hirsch) and scaled to the peak of the tallest mountain in Africa.

It was a remarkably taxing trip, as the climbing crew fought inclement weather, fatigue and altitude sickness and had to constantly ward of frostbite, hunger and dehydration. The whole trek was captured on film, and the special documenting the trip will be airing this Sunday (March 14) at 9 p.m. on MTV.

"Even with as many grandiose illusions that I have had, this has gone beyond my wildest dreams and expectations," Kenna said once he reached the top of the mountain. "The influencers, educators, staff, crew, and publicists have literally braved this on behalf of the world and, in a personally meaningful way, on behalf of my father."

It was an especially important project for Kenna, as his dad nearly died of water-born diseases in his youth. It opened his eyes to a worldwide crisis, as over one billion people do not have access to clean drinking water.

"I also can't be more thankful for all the people that followed us, donated and have fought the global clean water crisis with us," he added.

For more on "Summit on the Summit," check out the project's official Web site, stay tuned for more updates from MTV News and be sure to tune in Sunday (March 14) at 9 p.m. on MTV.

Elton John has a famous fan in Lady Gaga, but not everyone appreciates the awesome power of “Tiny Dancer.” A Georgia man was arrested Wednesday for making terrorist threats against Sir Elton. Last month Neal Horsley, 65, posted a YouTube video of himself standing in front of the singer’s Atlanta apartment complex holding a large red sign that said “Elton John Must Die.” Horsley was upset about a Parade magazine interview in which John said he thought Jesus was a “compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems.”

“We’re here today to remind Elton John that he has to die,” Horsley says in the video. “What Elton John has done is desecrated the image of the Lord Jesus Christ, blasphemed the Lord Jesus Christ.” He goes on to use homophobic slurs and quote scripture.

This isn’t the first time Horsley — who has a surprisingly thorough Wikipedia page — has raised eyebrows. A militant anti-abortionist, he started a Website in the late 1990s that listed the names and addresses of doctors who performed abortions. Two years ago, Horsley founded the Creator’s Rights Party in Georgia and claims to be a candidate for the 2010 governor’s race. According to the AP, he kicked off his campaign wearing a placard showing a picture of an aborted fetus. The state ethics committee, meanwhile, has no record of his campaign.

Horsley’s bail is set at $40,000. Elton John’s publicist confirmed that the singer has an apartment in Atlanta, but wouldn’t tell the AP anything more.

The epic clip runs nearly 10 minutes and features a super-colorful, quick-cutting narrative that follows Gaga as she goes to jail, extracts revenge on a diner full of patrons and goes on a general mayhem spree with the help of Beyoncé and the giant yellow truck from "Kill Bill." There's also lots of cursing, all types of wacky fashion, fistfights, a poison recipe, plenty of athletic dancing and a cliffhanger at the end. It's unlike any other music video in recent memory, even surpassing past Gaga efforts like "Paparazzi" and "Bad Romance."

At the same time, it does conjure up memories of Guns N' Roses' "November Rain," a similarly lengthy video that acted as the second entry in a trilogy of cinematic clips. ("Telephone" also acts as a sequel to "Paparazzi" and sets up a third clip at the end.)

When Guns N' Roses released Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II back in 1991, frontman Axl Rose wanted to create something truly unprecedented when it came to music videos. He collected three ballads from the two albums ("Don't Cry," "November Rain" and "Estranged") and crafted something of a narrative. Though the story is told out of order, the trilogy casts Axl as a vaguely fictionalized version of himself and the struggles he has with the woman in his life (played by then-girlfriend Stephanie Seymour). Over the course of three videos, they have a fight, Axl takes a lot of pills, Seymour dies in the rain (somehow) and everybody ends up sort of sad and depressed at the end.

Unfortunately, while the narrative made a bit of sense through "Don't Cry" and "November Rain," it totally falls apart during "Estranged." It's possible that the sudden unavailability of Seymour (she left Axl before the third video could be filmed) threw monkey wrench in the scenario, though it's also possible that Axl was facing the collapse of his band and simply forgot where the story was going. Or perhaps he never knew where it was going in the first place. Regardless, the video for "Estranged" does make reference to the other two clips but is mostly remembered as the video where Axl is (apparently) kidnapped by a dolphin.

So far, the story told during the series of Gaga videos is much more straightforward: Gaga gets involved with a man ("True Blood" star Alexander Skarsgard) and kills him in "Paparazzi," then goes to jail for it and breaks out to extract some form of revenge in "Telephone." There are plenty of other references to other Gaga videos in "Telephone" as well (like the cigarettes from "Bad Romance" and the dogs from "Poker Face"). It seems as though Gaga may have better luck in her trilogy than Axl did, but until we see the third one, Rose remains the video trilogy king.

What do you think of the "Telephone" video? What should be Gaga's next video? What do you think of Guns N' Roses attempted trilogy? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

American Idol eliminated its final four semifinal contestants last night, removing any chances of another Idol hero named Lambert breaking out this season — or of original songstress Lilly Scott getting a chance to bring her quirky style to the Top 12 stage. Scott, the blond-haired multi-instrumentalist who shouted out her Moog synth and performed an interesting take on the Beatles’ “Fixing a Hole” during the Top 24 rounds, was voted off along with Alex Lambert (who didn’t take the news well, to put it mildly), dramatic crooner Todrick Hall and earnest 19-year-old Katelyn Epperly. Watch Scott’s “A Change is Gonna Come” above.

With the Oscars in the rearview mirror, you may think that the awards season is officially over. But there is one last show that needs to be dealt with, and that is the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. The show, hosted by "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" star Kevin James, airs on Sunday, March 27 at 8 p.m. on Nickelodeon. (Of course, the MTV Movie Awards are just around the corner, so don't put away your black tie just yet.) This year's KCAs will celebrate such kid-friendly stars as the Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, Miranda Cosgrove, Selena Gomez and SpongeBob Squarepants. The show will also feature performances from Rihanna and Justin Bieber, the latter of whom showed up at Nickelodeon's upfront presentation in New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom on Thursday (March 11). He signed a handful of autographs for fans and hung out with "iCarly" star Cosgrove.

He wasn't the only star out meeting the people on Thursday, as Beyoncé attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new New Jersey Nets arena in Brooklyn with husband Jay-Z (who is a partial owner of the team) and Kelly Clarkson made her way to Johannesburg, South Africa, to talk to the press there. Click here for these photos as well as the complete "Spotted!" archive, which features nearly 400 candid shots of stars like Britney Spears, Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Mariah Carey, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Shakira, Diddy, Jessica Simpson and Ryan Seacrest!

At Monday night’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, one half of Abba will dance, jive and have the time of their lives while being honored by a roomful of the biggest names in music. The other two will be at home.

Fans hoping the Swedish pop masters would turn out a sparkling rendition of “Dancing Queen” — something they haven’t done since 1982 — will instead be serenaded by Faith Hill. It’s possible, though, that Abba’s Benny Andersson will perform. “If someone asks me to, yeah, I will,” he told Billboard.com. “I’ll see if I can play something from the old catalog.” Andersson will be attending the ceremony with ex-wife Frida (Anni-Frid Lyngstad). His songwriting partner Bjorn Ulvaeus can’t go because of a family event and Agnetha Faltskog “doesn’t like to fly,” Andersson told the USA Today.

Check out all of Rolling Stone’s Hall of Fame coverage.

In December, Andersson told Rolling Stone that he was shocked Abba received a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nod. “I didn’t think this would happen, because we were a pop band, not a rock band,” he said. “Being a foreigner from the North Pole, this feels really good.” Though he wasn’t certain, even then he predicted the group — which formed in 1970 — would not reunite. “The people who are really fond of Abba for what we did, I think we are doing them a favor by not going out. We all feel the same. It’s been too long of a time.”

See all of the Hall of Fame’s inductees.

Genesis, the Hollies, Jimmy Cliff and the Stooges will also be inducted into the Rock Hall on Monday night, but only the Stooges will perform. As Rolling Stone reported, Chris Isaak, Ronnie Spector, Adam Levine and Fefe Dobson are among the guest performers. Rolling Stone will have complete coverage from Monday night’s ceremony in New York, so stick with us for photos, interviews and more.

This weekend includes the Matt Damon action thriller "The Green Zone," the relationship comedy "She's Out of My League" and "Mother," the latest film from Bong Joon-ho, the Korean director of indie hits "The Host" and "Memories of Murder." But the flick grabbing the most headlines is "Remember Me," the first major role for "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson since he became America's most beloved undead blood sucker. The film also features "Lost" star Emilie de Ravin (finally doing something other than searching for her baby) as the object of Pattinson's affection and Chris Cooper as de Ravin's controlling father (he doesn't want her associating with the brooding, free-thinking Pattinson).

Like any trip to the local multiplex, "Remember Me" requires some appropriate music to get you into the mood. Memory is clearly a big deal among musicians, as there are dozens of songs that deal with remembering. Of course, there are some cornerstones, like Sarah McLachlan's immortal graduation and TV finale song "I Will Remember You" and the incarceration-can't-keep-me-down T.I. track "Remember Me." Plenty of these songs deal directly with relationships, like Jeff Buckley's "Forget Her," Poison's "I Won't Forget You" and Carrie Underwood's "Don't Forget to Remember Me." And in case you need a little more rage before going to see a Pattinson movie, there's always Slipknot's "Before I Forget" or Armor for Sleep's "Remember to Feel Real."

Michael Jackson's "Remember the Time" kicks things off, as it's a breezy, funky latter-day MJ track that is dedicated to carrying relationship memories with you. Also, it's a fantastically epic clip featuring cameos from Eddie Murphy, supermodel Iman and basketball legend Earvin "Magic" Johnson (among others).

We did not see that coming. After a pretty good run last week predicting which "American Idol" contestants would be eliminated, MTV's "Idol" brain trust got thrown for a loop on Thursday night (March 11) when all logic was tossed aside and America saved two of the wounded lambs while sacrificing two arguably strong contestants who might have surprised us in the Top 12.

After going 4-for-4 last week, I got blanked three times, incorrectly predicting that Paige "Smile" Miles would go down hard, along with old-before-her-time teen Katie Stevens. Instead, we saw Lilly Scott and Katelyn Epperly sent to the showers, a prospect I did not see coming.

On the boys' side, I also got blindsided by nervous nelly teen Aaron Kelly getting a trip to the Top 12 over possible darkhorse (and equally panicky) Alex Lambert, who seemed poised for a slow-burn rise through the finals. The tossing of Todrick Hall, however, was no surprise.

"American Idol in 60 Seconds" chief Jim Cantiello (who was 2-for-4 last week) also went 1-for-4, losing his shirt on Stevens, Miles and Kelly but correctly predicting Hall.

Then there was MJ's Big Blog founder MJ Santilli, who got totally blanked, going 0-for-4 after tagging Miles and Kelly and making bold forecasts about the imminent demise of judges' fave Lee Dewyze and Texas singer Lacey Brown.

A rough week all around.

After two weeks, the standings so far:
Gil Kaufman: 5-of-8
Jim Cantiello: 3-of-8
MJ Santilli: 2-of-8

Come back next week to see which finalists will be the first to go home and to see whether or not I can continue to reign supreme.

How did you do this week picking "Idol" eliminations? Who would you have sent home? Leave your comments below and let us know!

Hip-hop producers come and go, but only a handful of them stick around past their buzz to craft actual careers. Only the likes of Timbaland, Kanye West and the like have managed to transcend their initial craft and become multi-talented superstars, mostly by indulging in projects way outside the realm of commercial hip-hop.

Such is the case with Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, known professionally as the Neptunes. At the beginning of the millennium, they were an unstoppable force on the radio, crafting funky, Prince-inspired, chart-crushing beats for the likes of Jay-Z ("I Just Wanna Luv U (Give It 2 Me)"), Nelly ("Hot in Herre"), Britney Spears ("I'm a Slave 4 U") and Mystikal ("Shake Ya Ass"). Flush with cash and looking to expand their horizons, Williams and Hugo formed N.E.R.D., a sort of funky alt-rock band who dropped their first album In Search Of... on this day in 2002.

The album, full of hardcore twitches and stoned ballads, was originally released in 2001 with mostly electronic instrumentation, but the group decided to with a more "live" sound and re-recorded the entire thing. When it finally did hit stores, it got rave reviews and established Williams and Hugo as multi-talented musicians eager to stretch out.

In Search Of... gave rise to some big hits for the group (including "Rock Star" and "Provider") and subsequent N.E.R.D. albums have veered even deeper into prog rock and strange experiments. Still, the group will forever have a place with the immortals because of "Lapdance," the raunchy, political, swaggerific first single.

Lawyers for producer Phil Spector have appealed his 2009 murder conviction, claiming he didn’t receive a fair trial. Last May, Spector, now 70 years old, was sentenced to 19 years to life in prison for shooting actress Lana Clarkson at his California mansion in 2003. Citing judicial error and prosecutorial misconduct, his legal team requested the conviction be overturned and he be given a new trial, the AP reports.

The Rise & Fall of Phil Spector: Photos from his famed studio sessions.

In papers filed Wednesday, the attorneys claimed prosecutors improperly used testimony from five women who claimed that Spector threatened them with guns in the past. The accounts, they wrote, “became the heart of the state’s case” and were used to persuade jury members to convict Spector “based on his bad character and evil propensities.” His lawyers said their testimonies had nothing to do with Clarkson’s death and that none of their stories “involved events in which Mr. Spector put a gun in someone’s mouth, much less fired it.”

Phil Spector on trial: photos from the crime scene to the courthouse.

Spector’s lawyers criticized the actions of Judge Larry Paul Fidler, citing that he allowed prosecutors to use the word “pattern” more than 40 times in describing Spector’s history with women and guns. They also decried the judge’s decision to allow jurors in the second trial to see a taped hearing from the first trial that was conducted outside the presence of Spector. On the tape, the judge was seen interpreting a forensic witness’s testimony about the position of the blood spatter on Clarkson’s body. “Under California law, a judge may not offer evidence in a trial over which he presides,” the appeal states, adding that the judge could not be cross-examined by the defense on what the prosecutors said was the most important fact of the case — whether the blood spatter showed who pulled the trigger.

The state attorney general’s office is expected to file a reply brief next month.

This week, 311 celebrated their fans and their music during a three day festival called 311 Day. We sent two 311 superfans to give us the diehard's perspective about the show, the crowds and the vibe of the greatest 72 hours in 311 history.

By Lauren Black

True to tradition, 311 Day 2010 was yet another epic concert experience. There truly might not be words adequate to describe the incredible energy of the band and the fans feeding off each other, as well as the beauty of 311's music. Outside the venue, excited fans chanted "Three! One! One! Three! One! One!" The excitement was palpable.

From the second 311 took the stage to the very final bow after the show, the energy in the building was amazing. When SA Martinez predicted that on a scale of one to 10, this show would be a 20, he was not overshooting. Fans danced and stayed on their feet rocking out for just over five hours (a total of 60 songs were brought out — a true marathon) as 311 continued to surprise the crowd. In addition to all the hits, they sprinkled rare and older gems into the mix, and there were also unbelievable showcases for each band member's particular talent. The stage setup was amazing, with drummer Chad Sexton's drum kit on a 360 degree rotating riser and huge HD screens playing the simultaneous webcast footage.

The guys running the soundboard were on point and each member of 311 shined on his own, yet the cohesion was absolutely impeccable. Without a doubt, it was the most amazing show I have ever seen in my life (and I have seen a lot of great 311 shows, so that is saying a lot). It warmed my heart to hear Nick talk about fan appreciation and thank us for our support over the years. I hope they realize how much we love them and the music they create. Many friendships and great things have come from 311 Days and 311's music in general. 311 fans are the best group of people in the world, and I absolutely love everyone I have met through my 311-related travels.

This 311 Day was better than what could have ever been imagined. They will have a hard time topping this in 2012, and I am already looking forward to it! On Friday (March 12), the Wailers are playing a show to round out the festivities. It's going to be a wonderful end to the 311 Day experience. See you at the pool party!

Lady Gaga and Beyoncé’s anxiously awaited video for their The Fame Monster collaboration “Telephone” has arrived as a nine-minute-and-thirty-second mash-up of lesbian prison porn, campy sexploitation flicks and insidery winks at the two divas’ public personas. If Quentin Tarantino and Russ Meyer remade Thelma & Louise as an orgy of product placement with fiercely choreographed interludes, this would be the result. The video was scheduled to premiere on E! at 11:30 p.m. tonight, but hit the Internet early via a leak. Jonas Åkerlund, who previously helmed Gaga’s “Paparazzi” video, directed the clip.

Check out Lady Gaga’s wildest looks.

The mini-movie opens in a women’s prison, where guards strip Gaga bare and mutter, “I told you she didn’t have a dick,” fanning the flames of one of the most persistent rumors about Stefani Germanotta’s gender identity. Almost immediately the self-referential nudges and brand names appear: the boom box in the exercise yard blasts Lady Gaga’s “Paper Gangsta,” a fellow inmate wears Monster Heartbeats earbuds, Gaga has a Virgin Mobile phone tucked in her pants and sports Chanel shades and Diet Coke cans in her hair as makeshift curlers (nice touch!).

The song kicks in just before the three-minute mark as Gaga (in a spiked bikini and what appears to be Karen O’s jacket from the “Zero” video) takes a call in jail and launches into the most appealing afternoon imaginable behind bars — a tightly choreographed routine that has Gaga and four tattooed backup dancers stamping through the cell block.

When Beyoncé’s scheduled interlude arrives, the song breaks for another dramatic sequence. A guard perusing dating Website Plenty of Fish on a Beats by Dre laptop informs Gaga she’s been bailed out. Beyoncé (nicknamed Honey Bee, a nod to Honey Bunny from Pulp Fiction) rolls up in the Pussy Wagon from Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Volume One, informs Gaga, “You’ve been a very bad girl” and feeds her a 50 Cent Honey Bun. Simply being in Tarantino’s car inspires some Vincent Vega and Jules Winnfield banter (”You know Gaga, trust is like a mirror. You can fix it if it’s broke…” “But you can still see the crack in that motherfucker’s reflection”).

Beyoncé launches into the song’s bridge as Lady Gaga snaps photos of her with a Polaroid camera, then the pair pull up to a vintage diner where Beyoncé entertains a gentleman pal (played by Tyrese Gibson) and Gaga mans the kitchen, slipping poison into the food along with Miracle Whip and Wonder Bread (cue another awesome dance sequence, this time with cooks prancing around the stove in a moment that could have been borrowed from Madonna’s “Hung Up” clip). Beyoncé takes a moment to toy with her squeaky-clean image — busting out the line, “I knew you’d take all my honey, you selfish motherfucker” as Gibson keels over at the table — and another dance sequence begins, this time with Gaga and B in patriotic garb.

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy’s Jai Rodriguez arrives as a news reporter broadcasting word of the mass homicide (dubbed “The Telephone Effect”) as Gaga and Beyoncé speed away in the Pussy Wagon dressed in white and black veils. “We did it, Honey Bee, now let’s go far, far away from here,” Gaga says as the two clasp hands and hit the accelerator.

The clip is certainly cinematic and oddly feminist, and gasps at a larger statement about consumer culture. As Gaga told E!, she was preoccupied with “the idea that America is full of young people that are inundated with information and technology and turn it into something that was more of a commentary on the kind of country that we are.”
