The band — consisting of Gosling and friend Zach Shields — just signed a deal with Anti- Records, the label home of the likes of Tom Waits, Neko Case and Nick Cave. As the video below shows, those associations make perfect sense, as the group’s sound is rooted in moody, scratchy blues music — sort of like Jack White’s quieter moments.

Gosling becomes the latest alumnus of “The Mickey Mouse Club” to sign a record deal, following Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and JC Chasez. Gosling was able to show off his vocal prowess on the show — watch as he gets his R&B on with Timberlake and Chasez.

Dead Man’s Bones’ self-titled album is scheduled to be released in October.
